Playbill said it best when it named Zack Zadek a “Contemporary Songwriter You Should Know.” Despite graduating from New York University’s Gallatin School and Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music only a few years ago, Zadek has wasted no time writing award-winning musicals that have been developed at major American Theatres and performed by some of Broadway and West End’s biggest names. Zadek hails from suburban Dix Hills, Long Island where he began learning piano at age 3. Years later, his passion for combining different genres of music flourished into a rewarding career as a songwriter, involving work in musical theatre, pop music, film scoring and more.
As a songwriter, Zadek loves blending narrative lyrics, pop hooks, and indie sensibilities into driving songs that tell a story. With a keen sense of emotion in his songs, it’s no surprise that Zadek was awarded a prestigious MacDowell Fellowship, and honored with the 2017 Weston New Musical Award for his book, music and lyrics to Deathless which premiered at Goodspeed in 2017. And as a pop writer, he holds various songwriting credits alongside talent like Kiesza, FLETCHER, Lauv and many other artists, writers and producers.
Currently, Zadek divides his time between pop co-writing and musical theatre projects, including commissions from Mike Bosner Productions, a stage adaptation of a major motion picture, and a collaboration with The Civilians.
He lives in Brooklyn, NY.
